Demonstration day for farmers

Showcasing best practices in the field

On January 22 many farmers gathered to the demonstration field of Mr. Mohamed BASHIR in Kayar. Trainers from ENSA, ANCAR and APMK provided a tour on the field, explaining the activities on the fields, and the reason of the choice of crops according to the rotation schedule. A lively discussion between trainers and farmers followed. Farmers asked critical questions like as to the effectivity of rotation on a small plot like this. Great question! Although rotation is critical for long term soil health and crop productivity, it is challenging on small farms (1-2 ha) of which there are many in Kayar. The trainers were able to provide concrete ways to address this, for example by rotating the crop on field level, rather than on smaller sub-plot levels.
