Onion project in full swing

Impact Cluster on track

Despite challenges during setting up of the locations at the beginning of the onion project, cultivation and monitoring are now in full swing! The farmers already enjoy some nice harvest. Recently, during an open field day for farmers, many visitors could see good agricultural practices that improve soil health, organic matter content, and crop yields, including crop rotation, drip irrigation and mulching. The seeds on the demonstration locations are provided by HZPC and Enza Zaden, both partners in the Impact Cluster project. In the coming months the locations will be further developed, while addressing urgent issues such as clogging of the driplines and establishing the nurseries for the last part of the growing season. The locations will also increasingly been used for practical training of trainers and farmers.

The three demonstration locations are a key part of the Impact Cluster project ‘Onion Farming for the Future’, where nine Senegalese and Dutch partners work together to boost quality and quantity of important vegetable crops and growing their services and (business) activities. The project is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), as well as the nine partners who support with their own contributions.
